The Sears Difference

A Rarity Among Cape Cod Landscapers

Most landscapers buy plants from a wholesaler and put them in the ground the same week they arrive. We're built differently. Davenport Farms — our own tree farm and nursery in Brewster — means the trees, shrubs, and plants we install have already spent time in our care.

Very few landscapers on Cape Cod own a tree farm and nursery of their own. That ownership is the reason a Sears planting establishes faster, weathers the coast better, and lasts longer — and it's why we can stand behind everything we put in the ground.

We don't plant straight off a delivery truck. Every plant settles in at our nursery first.

From Our Nursery to Your Yard

Every plant we install follows the same four steps — and it never skips the nursery.

STEP 1

Hand-Selected & Sourced

We source from established growers and hand-pick healthy, well-formed stock — never settling for whatever a wholesaler has on the truck that week.

STEP 2

Cared For & Acclimated

At our Brewster nursery, plants are tended and given time to adjust to Cape Cod's soil and coastal conditions before they ever reach a customer's yard.

STEP 3

Health-Checked

Every plant is inspected for pests, disease, and root health. Anything that doesn't meet our standard never leaves the nursery.

STEP 4

Installed by Our Crew

Our own crews — not a subcontractor — dig, plant, and stake each tree and shrub, then walk you through the aftercare it needs.

What You'll Find at the Nursery

A working selection of the trees, shrubs, and plants we install across Cape Cod — chosen to thrive here.

Shade & Canopy Trees

Large-growing trees such as maples and oaks — for shade, structure, and lasting curb appeal.

Flowering & Ornamental Trees

Accent trees such as dogwood, cherry, and magnolia — bringing seasonal color and a focal point to any yard.

Evergreens & Conifers

Cedars, pines, spruce, and arborvitae for year-round greenery, screening, and privacy.

Shrubs & Hedging

Hydrangea, holly, boxwood, and privet for borders, foundation plantings, and privacy hedges.

Perennials & Grasses

Flowering perennials and ornamental grasses that return and fill in year after year.

Native & Salt-Tolerant Species

Beach plum, bayberry, Eastern red cedar, and other plants built to handle salt spray and exposed coastal lots.

Looking for something specific? We'll source specialty trees and shrubs for you — and they still pass through our nursery before they're installed.

Plants That Are Ready for the Cape

Cape Cod is hard on plants — salt-laden wind, sandy soil that drains fast, and exposed lots that inland nurseries never have to plan for. A plant trucked in from a warmer, sheltered growing region is in for a shock the day it goes in the ground.

Time at our nursery changes that. Trees and shrubs adjust to local conditions gradually, so by planting day they're already accustomed to the soil and exposure they'll live in. They take root faster, need less babying, and are far more likely to thrive their first season and beyond.

  • Healthier, better-established plants — checked for health and tended, never planted off a delivery truck.
  • Acclimated to Cape Cod's coastal climate — so plants take root faster and last far longer.
  • One team, nursery to finished yard — we select it, care for it, and plant it ourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our Cape Cod tree farm and nursery.

Do you grow your own trees and plants? +
We source our trees, shrubs, and plants from established growers, then bring them to Davenport Farms — our own nursery in Brewster — where they're cared for and acclimated to Cape Cod's coastal conditions before installation. That acclimation period is what sets a Sears planting apart from one delivered straight off a wholesale truck.
Can I visit the nursery? +
Yes. Davenport Farms in Brewster is primarily the supply yard for our own installation crews, but customers are welcome to visit by appointment to walk the stock and select trees and shrubs for their project. Call (508) 398-8151 to arrange a time.
Why does it matter that you own a tree farm and nursery? +
Very few Cape Cod landscapers own their own tree farm and nursery. Because we do, every plant we install spends time in our care first — hand-selected, health-checked, and acclimated to the coast. One team handles everything from selecting the plant to putting it in the ground, with no middlemen and no rushing stock off a delivery truck.
What kinds of trees and shrubs do you carry? +
Our nursery stock covers shade and canopy trees, flowering and ornamental trees, evergreens and conifers, shrubs and hedging, perennials and ornamental grasses, and native salt-tolerant species suited to Cape Cod's coastal climate.
Do you only install plants from your own nursery? +
Our nursery stock covers the trees, shrubs, and plants used on most projects. For specialty or hard-to-find species, we source them for you — and they still pass through our nursery for health-checking and acclimation before installation.
Will the plants survive Cape Cod's coastal conditions? +
Yes, with the right species and proper preparation. Time at our nursery lets plants adjust to local soil and exposure before planting, and we steer coastal properties toward salt-tolerant species like Eastern red cedar, beach plum, and Japanese black pine.
